Freedom of Information Day
March 16, 2021

Freedom of Information Day (FOI) is an annual event on or near March 16, the birthday of James Madison, who is regarded as the Father of the Constitution and an advocate for openness in government. Each year, the James Madison Award and Eileen Cooke State & Local Madison Award are presented by the American Library Association, Washington, DC Office. These awards are given to individuals or groups who promote public access to government information and the public’s right to know.

National Poetry Month

Join us in celebrating the twenty-fifth anniversary of this annual event! Created by the Academy of American Poets, National Poetry Month reminds us that poetry matters and plays a vital role in our culture. Claimed to be the largest literary celebration in the world, with tens of millions of readers, students, teachers, librarians, authors, publishers, and families highlighting the importance of poetry in our lives.

School Library Month

The American Association of School Librarians created school Library Month to celebrate school librarians and the essential role that strong school library programs play in a student’s educational career.

National Library Week

National Library Workers Day
April 6, 2021

National Library Workers Day falls on the Tuesday of National Library Week. It is sponsored by the American Library Association-Allied Professional Association (ALA_APA) to recognize all library workers, including librarians, support staff, and others who make our libraries special every day.

The American Library Association sponsors this national observation, commonly know as Día. Celebrated annually on April 30 and creates a year-round commitment to connecting diverse books and programming opportunities in the library. Celebrating children, families, and reading, emphasizing the importance of literacy for children of all linguistic and  cultural backgrounds.
