Our Class Website!
We have been setting personal reading and math goals, as well as whole class goals. The students have been doing really amazing with this and have reached many of the goals that they have set for themselves. The students first write their goals and hang them in the goal center, once they have achieved that goal they glue it onto the Our Goals Achieved poster to look at all year! Talk with your child about their goals!
Word study homework has changed the students only need to take the practice test on Thursday night. I will be sending home their word list on Mondays, I encourage you to still look over the words throughout the week.
Jamestown/Yorktown field trip is fast approaching. You now have the permission slip for it. The cost is 45.00 for the charter and admission. Please plan accordingly for both the cost and the arrangements needed to be made for the students to arrive to school by 7:30am and to be picked up after school. It is a very cool field trip where the students get to be in a place that they have studied about!

We are working on sensory words in poetry for the next couple of weeks. We will be exploring words that could be classified under smell, touch, feel, taste, sight. The students will also be focusing on reference materials. They will be learning about dictionary guide words, glossary, index, table of contents, etc. Please talk with your students about the purpose of these aspects.
The students will have a quiz on both next week.
We are finishing up our famous Virginian project. The students must complete this project this week. Whatever is not finished may need to be done at home. The students can access their projects on the Office 365 under instructional technology. They are picking one famous Virginian and creating a project that answers several different questions about their life, contributions to VA history, and interesting facts. Please discuss with your child about plagiarizing and the importance of putting it into their own words.
Tuesday will be the probability test. Make sure your child is studying the study guide. Switch up the numbers and have them work out the problems at home.
On Wednesday we will begin decimals. We will start with the basics this week of understanding the place value of the decimals. We also will be exploring the fraction equivalence for the decimals.
We have just taken our fractions test. This is a very hard concept for students to grasp. We will continue to spiral review fractions in preparation for the SOL test. Your child may have fractions homework in the coming weeks even if we are working on different concepts. Please continue to work with your child on: finding equivalent fractions, comparing and ordering fractions, adding and subtracting fractions, and placing fractions on a number line.
Tuesdays/Thursdays are IXL days, make sure your child is on IXL for at least 20 minutes. I will be assigning the strands. They need to go to fourth grade.
We just explored making series and parallel circuits which we will be taking a quiz on those circuits on Wednesday/Thursday. We are moving into exploring conductors and insulators and then static electricity.
